-Frequently Asked Questions-
Below are the answers to any questions you may have about driving lessons. If you have any other questions please feel free to get in touch.
Q: Do I need a provisional driving license to learn to drive?
A: Yes, you can apply for one HERE.
Q: Do I need to pass my theory test before I can learn to drive?
A: No, while it can be helpful to start revising your theory before you start driving lessons, you can take your theory test at any point in your learning. ALP Driving can give you support with your theory test. You can find out more about that HERE.
Q: Who will be my driving instructor?
A: That would be me, Amy Parker. I’m a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and have been giving driving lessons for five years now. Don’t worry, I’m friendly, knowledgeable, calm and here to help you learn at your own pace.
Q: Which areas do you cover? A: I’m based in Bourne, but also cover Peterborough, Stamford, Deeping, and most of the surrounding areas. Find out more info HERE.
Q: How much will driving lessons cost me?
A: You can find all of the prices at ALP Driving HERE.
Q: What do I need to bring to my first lesson?
A: Just your provisional driving licence and a way to pay for the lesson, unless you’ve already paid via bank transfer.
Q: What can I expect in my first driving lesson?
A: On your first driving lesson you can expect to drive! To start off we’ll do a licence check, discuss any previous experience you may have, what you hope to get out of the lesson etc. Then we’ll be on the road getting you used to the car and if you’re a completely new learner, we’ll cover the basics to start. How much gets done in your first lesson depends entirely on you and your comfort level. Everybody is different and learns at a different pace.
Q: How do I pay for my lessons?
A: You can pay by either bank transfer, debit/credit card, Apple or Android pay, or cheque, or even gift voucher. At the moment cash payments aren’t accepted.
Q: Can I buy lessons for someone i.e. a gift voucher?
A: Yes! Gift vouchers are available. Just contact Amy on 07949 732960 or email alpdriving@gmail.com to purchase one.
Q: How long does it take to learn to drive?
A: Everybody is different, so it’s very hard to say. Some learn faster than others and learning to drive isn’t just about the basics, it’s about being safe. You’ll need to be able to handle any situation that should arise during a driving test and the ability to do this comes with experience. At ALP Driving you’ll be able to track your progress very easily.
Q: Can I cancel my driving lesson? A: If necessary you may cancel your lesson. Please, where possible, give at least 24 notice if you need to cancel, otherwise you may be charged. If you need to cancel because you or someone in your household is experiencing Covid-19 symptoms please let me know so I can make sure to keep my other learners and myself safe.
Q: What are your terms and conditions?
A: Terms and conditions for ALP Driving can be found HERE. By beginning your driving lessons with ALP Driving you’ll automatically agree to the terms & conditions.
Q: Do you offer intensive courses?
A: Not at the moment, but if you’re interested in intensive courses I’d be happy to recommend some companies.
Q: When can I book my practical driving test?
A: You’ll need to pass your theory test first. When it comes to booking a driving test it can vary from learner to learner so please wait to discuss with your instructor before booking. This will also make sure your instructor is available for your preferred date/time, so you won’t be left disappointed.
Q: Why should I choose ALP Driving?
A: Great question! I’m dedicated to creating safe drivers for our roads. There are more and more people on the road all time time and I want to make sure you’ll be able to keep yourself and other road users safe through the skills you’ll learn in lessons with me. I’m relaxed, calm, not one to raise my voice and very friendly. I will never push you to try something you’re not ready for when you’re behind the wheel, but I also won’t stifle your learning. My job is to guide and help you progress at your own pace, all the while keeping us and those around us safe. I’m always easy to contact and if, after our first lesson, you find you want to try another instructor I won’t be offended.
Q: Can I learn to drive with a friend or family?
A: It is actually encouraged to do some private driving with a friend or family (if possible) alongside your driving lessons with an instructor. This will help you on your road to a full driving licence. However, there are some legal requirements.
Q: I have another question!
A: No problem! If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for here, please get in touch. Contact Amy on 07949 732960 or email alpdriving@gmail.com
